Bucks’ nights and hen parties have been getting ever more elaborate, with the Sydney Morning Herald reporting last year that some hen nights can cost a staggering $1,800 per person. Even just the average bucks night spend has risen in the last decade from around $80 per person to $250 each.
Thankfully, there are lots of simple ways to save money on your bucks’ and hen nights. Here are WWS’s top seven budget bucks and hen night tips.
Bucks Night Pre Wedding Fun
- Remember you’re a group but forget you’re part of a wedding. Savvy wedding planners will always tell you to ask about prices before you tell vendors what type of event you’re planning. Do the same for buck and hen dos. Use your group status to negotiate a discount before uttering the word ‘wedding’.
- Use wedding party pegs to create name badges and decorations, rather than printing T-shirts. If you’re having a picnic or buffet at home, they also make cute labels for different dishes. In fact, you could use them just about anywhere, so buy in bulk and use extras for wedding favours or thank-you cards.
- Wholesale wedding accessories come into their own for a DIY buck or hen do. Novelty garters, shawls and veils are fun hen and bucks’ night props that needn’t cost a fortune. And who doesn’t love a bit of dressing up?
- Adding some party items to your wholesale wedding order can save you a fortune and help to tie the theme of your hen and buck parties in with the theme for your big day. Balloons, ribbons and streamers all add to the DIY decorating fun, and if you buy them at wholesale prices as part of your wedding scheme, they won’t cost you anything extra at all.
- Weekend away? Consider alternative and cheaper accommodation. In the summer, universities will often rent out empty student accommodation in big cities at budget prices. Alternatively, consider camping and having a BBQ or picnic to save money on room and board.
- Pamper weekends and spa days are popular options for hen parties, but with a typical package costing $350 each, why not DIY your own version? Split the cost of luxury beauty products and hold a hen party at someone’s home. An at-home poker night can also work brilliantly, with the bride or groom taking home any profits made on the night.
- And our final tip is one area not to scrimp in. If your buck or hen do involves a night of drinking far from home, keep enough in the kitty for sober transport home. It needn’t be a limo, but it does need to be reliable, safe and convenient.
