Six Wedding Trends For the New Year

This ethic shows itself in several ways, but in almost every area, the style that seems to be most popular is moving away from the bold and extravagant weddings of the noughties towards a more subtle, individual and soft event that celebrates intimacy over ostentation. So, if you’re looking for inspiration or want to know what to expect at the weddings you attend this year, here are WWS’s top 2015 wedding trends.

  1. Simple doesn’t always mean simplistic, and one of the wedding trends that was all over the catwalk was smart flexible design. Key items like wedding gown trains are becoming detachable, to make for a grand ceremony statement but a relaxed reception. This idea extends to realistic bridal hair extensions can be clipped in and out and wedding reception decorations that can serve more than one purpose.
  2. Soft colours have been around for several years now, and the trend shows no sign of abating in 2015. That’s not to say that 2015’s bridal bouquets will be dull; it’s more that their beauty comes from marrying tonal soft shades, rather than building around a single bold colour theme. Think faded soft pink peonies, cream roses and silver-green foliage with the interest supplied by texture and scent as much as by colour.
  3. Copper is a strong trend in fashion, interiors and now weddings. Don’t swap your rings for a bit of plumbing pipe just yet, but do expect to see copper used increasingly in vases, candle holders and as a bright accent to all those muted pastels and neutrals. The brilliant thing about cooper is that it provides lustre and warmth in equal measure. Similarly on-trend is rose gold, which is fantastic for adding warmth and detail. Consider using them in wedding table decorations, or use both as a foil to plain wedding linen.
  4. The no-wedding wedding. Increasingly, couples are embracing a more laid back and personal wedding, often having a very short, formal ceremony for close family only and then throwing a party for family and friends, thereby avoiding the formality of toasts and speeches. Weddings like this can be pulled together at short notice and have a quirky charm of their own.
  5. Home comforts are a spin-off of the rustic trend that has been so popular for the last few years. Comforting traditional food has become increasingly in-demand from caterers; think bacon roll over hog roast and soup over smoked salmon. Again, it’s part of the simple, home-spun ethic that has seen the rise of Mason jar vases, jute and hessian fabrics and paper crafts.
  6. Urban chic doesn’t just mean city weddings; it’s also all about making the most of what urban life has to offer. So, urban chic weddings might embrace the current street food trend with the wedding breakfast or reception meal served from food trucks, the ceremony held in the airy space offered by a museum or gallery, and a cocktail reception with food served all evening.
